Hi, I’m Jess: Founder and Chief Maven of Maven Consulting
But long before the fancy title, I was a firm believer that stories made the world go round; that relationships, reputation and being in the ‘right place at the right time’ were some of the most powerful contributors a brand’s success.
And while traditional storytelling will never get old, traditional brand marketing and consumer behavior has evolved tremendously over the years, and the world of PR hasn’t exactly followed suit.
After more than a dozen years leading PR at fast-growing consumer-lifestyle firm BAM the Agency, spearheading marketing communications at category-disrupting CPG brand Perfect Snacks, and building natural-products non-profit Naturally San Diego alongside industry vets, I noticed a blatant disconnect between brand marketers and their PR/communications counterparts.
So, after being on both ends of the client-agency relationship, I knew something needed to change; that’s when Maven Consulting was born.
As Mavens, we’re on a mission to rework the conversation, shift the approach, and ultimately change the outcome for growing brands who desire to truly measure and scale the effective results a solid, performance-driven PR strategy has the power to achieve.

The word maven comes from the Yiddish meyvn, meaning "one who understands." Defined as a trusted expert and connoisseur who passes timely and relevant knowledge onto others.
As Malcolm Gladwell put it, Mavens start "word-of-mouth epidemics" due to their subject-matter expertise, strong social skills, and the ability to communicate as information brokers, sharing and trading everything they know with others.
